FORUM FAQ'S

What is the Event Forum?

Our Event Forum gives you the opportunity to view and register for events, as well as organise your own events which other members can attend.  We have a couple of different forums.  The Event Ideas forum is for members to suggest events they'd like to organise, to "test the waters" and see if there is enough interest from other members to do so.  If you think you'd like to attend an event, please add a comment to the relevant event in this section (otherwise if you are interested but don't write anything the event might be canned as there will look like there is a lack of interest).

The Upcoming Events forum is for events which are definitely happening.  Again you can register via the Forum your interest in the event.

You can also subscribe to all or some of the forums and / or topics and get regular (either daily or weekly) updates sent to you, letting you know when something new is happening.

How do I use the Forum?

1.  Log in to the Active Spirit website using your member information (you must be logged on to view the Forums).

2.  Before starting to use the forum for the first time, go to "View profile", "Access by Others", "Edit Profile" and click on the "Members" column in the first name line.  You can also include your photo if you wish.  This puts your first name up only (and photo if you choose) on any forum comments you make, so we know who we are talking to (this section is only visible to members, so you won't be seen by the general public).

3.  Go to the forum section.  View the Upcoming Events and Event Ideas, and register your interest or ideas as you so wish!

What happens if I say I'm attending an Event, and then something unavoidable comes up and I can't make it?

Please let the organiser know ASAP, as they have gone to a lot of effort to put the event on, and will be expecting you to show up if they don't hear from you.  So just let them know, just as you would with your friends!

Didn't Active Spirit organise all the events previously?  How come members can now contribute to events?

Yes, Melissa did previously organise all events, however after running that way for a couple of months we realised:

(a)  We want to keep membership free, so we need to keep our costs as low as possible.  If we all chip in and host an event every now and then, we can make Active Spirit bigger and better than ever, with more variety and more interesting events.

(b)  Melissa also has a full time job, and so is limited with the amount of time she can spend planning, organising and hosting events.  If members can contribute as well, then there is more opportunity to add more variety to the calendar.  Not to mention there can be more interaction at the "Ideas" stage to enable a date to be chosen which suits a majority of members who'd like to attend (rather than a date chosen by Melissa because it suits her!).

(c) The events were all chosen by Melissa and therefore very reliant on what she wanted to do rather than what members wanted to do!!
